    Joe Courtade Moon Headshot

    Joe Courtade Moon

    Director of M.S. in Accounting and Data Analytics

    Joe received his M.A. from New York University in Higher Education and Student Affairs in 2015, and his B.A. from Grand Valley State University in International Relations and Political Science in 2013. He is currently working on his Ph.D. in Education Policy from Michigan State University.

    Prior to joining the Broad College, he has worked in a number of roles in academic advising, career services, and residence life, and has taught career education to undergraduate students.  He has also co-led study abroad programs to India and Haiti.

    Past institutions he has worked for include Grand Rapids Community College, Grand Valley State University, New York University, Cornell University, Stevens Institute of Technology, Marymount Manhattan College, and Interlochen Center for the Arts.

    Program Overview

    The online Graduate Certificate in Accounting for Management Decision Making is designed to meet the needs of business and accounting professionals, as well as career-changers. It is completely online, and students can complete the certificate at their own pace. Courses are offered in an asynchronous fashion, but may include optional synchronous interactions with other students and faculty. 

    Program Outcomes

    The objective of this certificate is to provide essential tools and skills to make business decisions using accounting information. The program focuses on the preparation, analysis and use of accounting information for planning and control purposes. The purpose is to understand how accounting is useful to facilitate decision-making of managers and employees within the firm, as opposed to parties external to the firm, such as investors.

    Career Outlook

    With growing complexity in financial operations, accountants with specialized education and experience in data analytics are in high demand. The program authenticates additional education and training which will enhance a student’s professional portfolio. The certificate program can assist existing managerial accountants advance their skill set and knowledge, or help those interested in corporate accounting transition into these roles.
