Advance your career—or transition to a career—in resilient urban planning and redevelopment with a world class education and credential from the MSU School of Planning, Design and Construction. Ideal for working professionals and current students. Courses are exclusively available online and on your schedule. Credits earned may be applied to requirements of Masters of Urban and Regional Planning. Current MSU undergraduates are eligible to apply for this certificate.
Urban Resilient Redevelopment (URR) certificate holders will responsibly manage future development by equipping students with an understanding of how to respond to acute and chronic shocks to their community in a way that produces tangible improvements on the ground. By preparing planners with real, marketable skills in knowing climate change policy, tools to address structural abandonment, and an understanding of land use planning in the context of community redevelopment.
The growing consensus on the need for resiliency in our urban areas, in Michigan and throughout the United States, points to the demand for URR’s core competencies, which include evaluation criteria like community plans and public outreach, zoning regulations, the development review process, public recruitment and education, and community prosperity.
Wayne Beyea is a faculty member in the MSU School of Planning, Design and Construction’s Urban & Regional Planning Program. In this capacity, he maintains a teaching and MSU Extension outreach program with an emphasis on the science and policy of green community planning, renewable energy siting and infrastructure, and sustainable development and climate change law. Beyea also teaches Planning and Development Law within the Urban and Regional Planning (URP) Program and is a licensed attorney in the State of Michigan.

PDC 858 - Land Use Planning and Housing (3 credits)
PDC 878 - Redevelopment and the Climate Resilient City (3 credits)
